People’s Talk Series 1 Episode 2

In the second series of the People’s Talk Podcast we got an opportunity to interact with Dr. David Orrell. He is a Canadian writer and mathematician. He received his doctorate in mathematics from the University of Oxford. His work in the prediction of complex systems such as the weather, genetics and the economy has been featured in New Scientist, the Financial Times, etc. He now conducts research and writes in the areas of systems biology and economics, and runs a mathematical consultancy Systems Forecasting.

In the interview the audience got to know about his teenage days and how he came to become an academic. The talk further discussed the pandemic and its behavioural impacts, the debate about climate change and how forecasting models are used in it. A more in depth discussion took place on cryptocurrencies, and the role they may play in the future.

The influential talk allowed everyone to gain a better understanding about a variety of topics mentioned above, especially about climate change and cryptocurrency.
