ISBF and London School of Economics (LSE)

London School of Economics

London School of Economics

ISBF and The London School of Economics (LSE)

LSE provides all academic direction for the EMFSS programmes taught at ISBF. This means that LSE academics design the programmes, lay down the regulations, write and update the curriculum to reflect their cutting-edge research and author the study material for all courses. Crucially, they also set and fully grade the final assessment for all courses on these programmes.

This is what ensures complete parity of curriculum, examinations and grading standards between an ISBF and an LSE student. This is also why the final University of London degree awarded to an ISBF graduate bears LSE’s name, and is treated as equivalent to an LSE degree. Watch the video to hear about this from the LSE EMFSS Dean.

LSE academics also curate and maintain the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), which houses a plethora of learning resources for every course, including access to the UOL Online Library. They also moderate course Discussion Forums on the VLE, through which students around the world have access to their rich expertise.

About LSE

The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is ranked #2 in the world for the Social Sciences, and was also ranked 4th for Accounting and Finance, 5th for Economics and Econometrics and 10th for Business and Management by QS in 2020.

It was established in 1895 and boasts of 18 Nobel Prize winners and 37 world leaders among its alumni and staff. Located in the centre of the city of London, its motto is rerum cognoscere causes (or ‘to understand the causes of things’) and its graduates are often rated as among the most employable in the UK.

Featured Teaching Institution

ISBF is recognised by LSE as one of its five Featured Teaching Institutions in the world. This is based on ISBF’s high admission standards and its students’ consistently strong achievements in the LSE examinations, which in turn bears testimony to the quality of teaching and learning students experience at ISBF.

By virtue of being among LSE’s five Featured Teaching Institutions, ISBF enjoys several faculty visits from London every year. These are spent lecturing to students, training ISBF faculty members and officiating at ceremonies.

Over the years, the ever-deepening association between the two institutions led to the appointment of Dr. James Abdey, Associate Academic Director of the EMFSS Programmes and Lecturer in the Department of Statistics at LSE, as Visiting Lecturer at ISBF for Statistics, Econometrics and Business Analytics.

Transfers into 2nd year at LSE

Since ISBF offers the same curriculum and rigour of summative assessment as at LSE, undergraduate students have the unique opportunity to transfer after first year at ISBF directly into second year at LSE as well as other top colleges around the world.

15 ISBF students have received offers to transfer to LSE in the past 7 years, including on full scholarship. This gives ISBF one of the most successful track records globally with respect to transfers to LSE.

Master’s at LSE

When applying for prestigious Master’s programmes at LSE and other top colleges of the world, the parity of curriculum, assessment and grading standards between ISBF and LSE gives ISBF’s undergraduate and Graduate Diploma students a clear edge over other Indian applicants. This is why several among them have even received generous funding for postgraduate study.

For instance, sisters Priya and Rhiya Bansal were awarded full scholarships by LSE to pursue the MSc Economics (1-year) programme in 2017 and 2018 respectively, after topping the BSc (Hons) Economics programme globally from ISBF.

Their status as University of London students also entitles students of ISBF to exemptions from appearing for the GRE/GMAT examinations when applying for several Master’s programmes at LSE and other colleges. Besides, the rigour of their study at ISBF equips them peerlessly to succeed at further study.

Summer School Scholarships

LSE offers two full scholarships annually to ISBF’s undergraduate students for its prestigious Summer School. These awards pay for the entirety of the scholars’ tuition and accommodation for a 3-week Summer School session and have been received by 13 students so far.

The scholars are selected by ISBF based on academic merit and contribution to college life and can opt for a course of their choice at LSE, from among exciting options.
