Saiesha Behal
BSc (Hons) Economics 2020

So before ISBF I was a totally different person. I still remembered my interviews I gave I think I three interviews and I was I mean, I was silent. Shreeja ma’am was asking me something and I was blank I was not speaking a word also, so that’s how I was before and so I ISBF has really changed me. I was never an academic person. I was never academically oriented and so like and now I can’t stop thinking about my career and this I want to study and like so many goals and achievements that I want to accomplish. So yeah that isn’t it. I mean that has had a very good impact on my life. So yeah. And it wouldn’t have been possible without Resham Ma’am I still remember the first year. They thought that was the best year among the three years because we had the best teacher Resham Ma’am Sahil Sir Navni Ma’am. I mean I can’t forget that year.

Shiven Nagrath
BSc (Hons) Economics 2014

I spent a year at Venky, DU (South Campus) doing Statistics Honours. The year as a whole was enjoyable but the add-on from a personal and professional view, from my college experience, was null. The emphasis on old school techniques existed and the curriculum was the same as it was when the professors were in college. They would make you study like in a school with only lecturers and no tutorials etc. Practical experience was zero and by the end of the year I was at the same place as I was when i left school. Of course, attendance is a joke, exams you can breeze through( probably) but your overall development as compared to International Universities was pathetic. My mum saw this and asked me to move and she found out about ISBF. So me and my friend both left Venky and ended up joining ISBF. The very first thing that was different was the curriculum. It was a mix of old teachings but applied in present. So we would study Hicks and Slutsky but the context was 2010 and not 1980’s. There was importance given to tutorials where the faculty could concentrate on students in smaller batch sizes. Since the curriculum is by LSE, Indians from ISC, CBSE other local boards required a learning curve which took a while and the one good way to make sure everyone was on level was through tutorials. This was also impressive because through this ISBF would make sure everybody was on the same level. Unlike DU where there are 85 students per lecture and getting a hold of the faculty to help you out was tough, ISBF made that easy.

Siddharth Nayyar
BSc (Hons) Economics 2014

My name is Siddharth Nayyar. I am from the batch of 2014 and I pursued BSc. Economics (Hons). I remember Chiraag Sir was teaching a course on microeconomics. He gave us a college project to do during the recession of 2008 and I did a terrible job at it. I was the kind of person who would spend more time outside the classroom than inside it, doing things that taught me other skills. In the review session with him, he said there are things that you will learn in this course that are going to come in handy some time in life, not all of it but some of it. So, it is important to learn those things and I understand that now. While I am managing a startup there are things about the balance sheets and cash flow statements, I wouldn’t have known had I not spent that time in the class. I think this one piece of advice from Chiraag Sir really stuck with me and I learned a lot from that. I am currently co-founding a startup and I am managing the business side of things there. It is an e-Sports startup. What ESPN is to cricket, my startup is to e-Sports. e-sports is competitive video gaming. While it is very important to know theoretical information, it is definitely going to come in handy someday, it is equally important to spend time outside of class as well. There are things that I learned working with college societies, events that I really use in today’s world. Things like leadership, taking initiative ownership, accountability – these are things that you will learn outside of the classroom and they are very important in today’s corporate world. Spend some time learning those things as well and spend an equal amount of focus on learning things outside of the classroom.

Sukh Sagar
BSc (Hons) Economics 2006

One piece of advice you received in college that is useful in the real world – The best thing that I learned here was the practical application of what you learn. I studied economics but my career isn’t in this field. How you apply yourself is something that I learned here. I don’t think they teach you this in other college, it’s more theoretical everywhere else. What are you currently doing and how did ISBF help you? I am an Energy Consultant. I work with buildings to reduce their electricity requirements. Purely engineering from a background of economics. What advice will you give students who are planning to join ISBF? Why should they join and how should they conduct themselves here? – I would highly recommend it, because the course is designed very well. The professors at our time were also very good, those we have studied under. The whole curriculum is very well designed.

Neha Malhotra
BSc (Hons) Economics 2010

I think it was the first day of college and when we walked in we realised if was just the 7 of us in the first batch of our undergraduate programme. I think I can never forget that day. And the 7 of us looked at each other like “What are gonna do?!”. But the faculty was great and we started enjoying the course and then the year after new students came in and today I am really proud that ISBF has about 180 students. One piece of advice you received in college that is useful in the real world – The professors we had back then, KRC Sir, Sethi Sir and Verma Sir, they all taught us about being sincere and committed to life, to work. That is something that I have carried with me. They instilled a lot of confidence in me and they always reinstated the fact that I am a good worker, this confidence I always carry with me even outside college. What advice will you give students who are planning to join ISBF? Why should they join and how should they conduct themselves here? – I would advise them to pick their subjects carefully, to think about what they enjoy, and to experiment because this is one good opportunity to try out everything and even if things don’t work out it’s okay.

Priyanka Dua
BSc (Hons) Economics  2015

What advice will you give students who are planning to join ISBF? Why should they join and how should they conduct themselves here? – I think it is very hard to decide what you want to pursue further but if you have a bent towards quantitative then BSc Economics if the degree for you because it is a lot of quant as you go further. A lot of people join economics thinking it is a theoretical subject but its not especially the course at ISBF. Craziest college memory- I think it would be one of the memories of the trip. I remember we had to go on a trek in Bhimtal, Chiraag Sir was there with us. He asked us to come for a trek in the morning and we all partied hard and then none of us showed up. It was crazy and I also remember it because that was the only time I saw Chiraag Sir so furious.

Nikhita Goel
BSc (Hons) Economics  2017

Hi! I am Nikhita Goel. I graduated in 2017 in BSc Economics. Since then it has been a great journey at ISBF. I was a part of the student council as Associate President and the Treasurer as well. Craziest college memory- It would definitely be a time when we had our cultural festival Xenia. They were the craziest two days of my life. We were working from 6 in the morning to 10 in the night, and we did not breathe! It was the biggest adrenaline rush that I have had. The most amount of friends and colleagues that I have made and they are still continuing after ISBF. It was because of Xenia, so that’s like the craziest part of my college life. One piece of advice you received in college that is useful in the real world – The one thing that I have learnt at ISBF is ‘how to manage my time’ and ‘deal with people’. Right now I am working in the corporate world and you deal with all kinds of people. ISBF trained me for that since my first year by putting me in the student council because as a part of it you have to work as a team. And you have to manage your time between studies and working for the college. That was an add on advantage for me as I have learnt to manage my time and now I can work in the corporate world. What are you currently doing and how did ISBF help you? I am working with MCube Capital, it’s a firm that deals with loan underwriting and sizing for real estate properties in the US. One piece of advice you received in college that is useful in the real world – I would suggest that, do not consider this college as small. People come to this college and they see four floors. Try to make the most out of your time at ISBF, study, work with the college, participate in extracurricular activities because that is a major part of your life at ISBF. If you do not get involved in college activities, you will never make the most of it.

Ananya Agarwal
BSc (Hons) Economics  2017

My name is Ananya. I have completed my degree in BSc Economics from the 2017 batch. Craziest college memory- I think my third year college trip was the most amazing and craziest trip I have ever had for very obvious reasons. I was a very normal, studious kid of the college compound. I discovered chill scenes once I went out. And after parties, after every college event we had, every success of Xenia, MUN One piece of advice you received in college that is useful in the real world – I think self study, your books that you get, please make sure you take your books or download the PDF’s or whatever you have and be as confident as you can. Grab whatever you can learn from your co-curriculars and whatever courses that you have. That makes you very much confident to talk to people around and communicating skills. What are you currently doing and how did ISBF help you? I am working with City as a pricing analyst for the past one and a half years. One piece of advice you received in college that is useful in the real world – Your are at ISBF for a reason, please make the most of it when you are branding yourself out for a job. Please make sure that people understand your value, and if you are hired, please make sure that you make yourself proud as an ISBFian, as a person there and be very good and very vigilant about what you say.

Pranay Agarwal
BSc (Hons) Economics  2013

“There was no disconnect moving from academic years to professional years. I was taught to think critically, and be aware of what’s happening around the world. Today, when I look back, I think a lot of what I am able to connect to is because of my learning at ISBF.”
