Menstrual Hygiene Campaign

Posted on May 28, 2020 by Girl Up, Zia  | Student Speak | Event Report

This was the first activity taken up by Girl-Up Zia which focused on the notion of period shaming and the taboo surrounding it. The activity invited young enthusiasts to click a selfie with their palm facing the camera with a Red Dot on it to get featured on Girl-Up Zia’s page. The pictures were published with #reddotchallenge. This challenge was necessary to break the stigma and taboo that comes with menstruation. It was time that we took our palms and end period shaming; make it an open topic to talk about. The response we got was tremendous with 33 people participating.

On Menstrual Hygiene Day, 28th May 2020, Girl-Up Zia held a live session in collaboration with Shourya Hygienes – one of the best companies out there manufacturing Oxo-Biodegradable sanitary napkins for very less and affordable price. The live session was headed by Girl-Up Zia’s founder Vedika Gupta and the session, as expected, took up a lot of questions on menstrual hygiene and answered them thoroughly. The session was very helpful, informative and knowledgeable for everyone who were curious about their own bodies and how to keep them clean during the cycles. The Do You Know series was an integral part of this campaign and was specifically placed before the live session so that our followers had a clear notion of where they stood in terms of the knowledge they originally have, consequently allowing them to clear any misconceptions or misinformation.
