It was held only within the society to increase bonds between society members. The two topics that were discussed were 1) Uniform Civil Code in India and 2) Modi’s Hindutvavadi Leadership: Truth or Opposition’s concocted lie?

The first topic was debated through the Lincoln-Douglas style debate. Atharva Kulkarni was advocating against the UCC while Manish Vaidya was advocating for UCC. Their debate went back and forth with very valid arguments being made by both sides. This allowed for the audience, who were not that knowledgeable about the UCC, to understand it as well as the two sides on a deeper level. Each debater took sides to make their speeches, cross-examine the other debater and also offer their rebuttal.

The second discussion was an open talk where the floor was open to everyone about Modi’s Hindutvavadi Leadership. The main points discussed were about the media hysteria/hype, how Modi himself has created his cult of personality and how the fear is used to sway voter banks.

Overall, the debate hour was successful in the sense that it allowed the Akademos members to grow closer together by voicing their opinions and have a fun discussion about important topics within our country.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
