The London School of Economics (LSE), which has developed this Business & Management programme, is ranked 10th in the world for these domains (QS 2020). This makes it one of the top programmes if you aspire to lead an enterprise – whether as a businessperson or as a manager – in dynamic global business environments.
This programme helps you develop a robust understanding of the core functional areas of today’s enterprise, such as accounting, international business, marketing, corporate finance and human resource management. You can build on this by pursuing courses like core management, organisation theory and psychology, or diversify your skill-set with cutting-edge and industry-relevant electives like e-business, social media, entrepreneurship and business analytics.
Taught through interactive lectures, case studies and flipped classrooms, and assessed through quizzes, hackathons, interdisciplinary projects and presentations, this programme will equip you to apply diverse principles and techniques to manage resources – people, products and materials. Such a management education will set you up for an MBA/Master’s programme from a world-leading institution, as well as to excel in exciting corporate sector roles or start your own venture and strive to become the next ‘unicorn’.
Note: The BSc (Honours) Business & Management (or “B&M”) programme is comparable with the Bachelor of Business Administration (or “BBA”) programme more commonly offered in India. However, on account of being significantly more analytical and application-oriented, the B&M programme serves as a much better stepping stone (than the BBA) for an MBA, a Master’s in Management or working as a manager or entrepreneur, all of which require high levels of problem-solving ability.
Popular electives include Management and Innovation of e-business (PDF Link); Business Analytics; Applied Modelling and Prediction (PDF Link); Management and Social Media (PDF Link); Elements of Social and Applied Psychology (PDF Link); Management Accounting (PDF Link); Financial Management (PDF Link); Principles of Corporate Finance (PDF Link); and other Management; Finance and Economics courses offered.
The academic session for this programme will start with two weeks of Foundation Courses in Accounting, Writing Skills and Applied Mathematics.
To pursue this programme, you must have studied Mathematics up to Class X. There is no other stream or subject-related eligibility criterion. No existing knowledge of Economics, Commerce or Management is assumed by the teachers at the outset of the programme. Strong argumentative writing skills will stand you in good stead.
Having received an LSE undergraduate education, you will have a significant edge when applying for Master’s programmes around the world after graduating, in areas such as Management, Marketing, Strategy, Human Resource Management, Supply Chain Management and Business Analytics, to name some. The pedigree of this education will also stand you in excellent stead when applying for an Ivy League or other top MBA programme.
This rigorous undergraduate education in business and management equips you with the requisite skills and experience (through the Entrepreneurship Cell and the ISBF Incubation Centre, among other things) for ‘starting-up’, besides preparing you to excel in a corporate sector career. This is because you will graduate with strong interpersonal and communication skills, and would also have honed your analytical skills, with training to apply them in diverse real-world situations and across different organisational models.
