The students of the Graduate Diploma in Management recently visited the Yakult DANONE Factory set up in Sonepat, Haryana. The factory is an ISO 9001: 2008, OHSAS 18001: 2007 and HACCP certified factory which is spread over 8 acres encompassing 30 % green belt area. The entire factory is divided into three areas based on the safety standards and each area has a specific number of machines to perform respective tasks. The staff was very well equipped and was performing their tasks with impeccable skills.
It was an informative day which commenced with the company presentation briefing about the company’s background and its current global footprints. The presentation was followed by a factory tour accompanied by the guide elucidating on each stage from production to packaging. It was enlightening to experience how the value was added at each stage of production.
International standards are incorporated and special care is taken while designing the factory layout to maintain the highest level of hygiene standards and deliver the best quality product to its consumers. It was a great experience to witness how tiny health bottles of Yakult were manufactured from giant machines. The factory has a capacity of manufacturing one million bottles per day which will eventually be achieved in a phased manner. The entire process of manufacturing Yakult is completely automated and there is no human touch at any point in the process as witnessed during the factory visit. The visit covered areas such as production process, productivity management, supply chain management, distribution, quality control, packaging, research and development, market research, demand/supply and human resource management.
With an aim to go beyond academics, this visit was arranged to develop the insights of the students attaining practical knowledge and their theoretical applications thereof. It was an enriching and learning experience to be a part of the factory visit.
