It is not unusual to face confusion and dilemma at all points of time. People from all walks of life experience it and they may somehow or the other, try and find a solution to it. But the most confused lot these days is ‘us’, the students, who represent the youth and the so-called Generation Next. What we face is not a dilemma, but a trilemma that ultimately makes us a part of a society which has a penchant for putting a label on every soul present on this planet; for example – zombie, nerd or a bum. The first category we come across is that of students who can manage their studies as well as their social life and thus pretty much fall into the category of Zombies (as per a facebook report.) These are the ones who can cut out on their sleep and party hard in the time after studies or party hard and then study in whatever time is left .They do not mind compromising on their sleep but the dilemma between partying and studying remains intact. The second case is that of Bums. This is the incompetent and insignificant lot. They prefer sleeping most of the time and socialize in the remaining time. They lack focus and lead a really laidback life with a lazy attitude. This is mostly the case in families where kids are over pampered and are not subject to any kind of pressure from the family’s side to perform well. Personal attitudes also play a big role. The dilemma here is how to take out time for studies! Now comes The Nerd. Nerds face a complex dilemma between studying and sleeping, because studies or sleep is all they care about. When it comes to life beyond that, they feel lost and might sometimes suffer from a complex which they would want to hide from the public. The Nerd is a student who can be identified from a distance. He will either be seen with a gadget such as a Mac book Pro in his hands and sporting specs, or if nothing else, a five inute conversation with such a person will not hide the reality for long. They have a niche of their own and do not have much of a social life because they cannot socialize with any random person they come across. They need people who they can strike a chord with. For example, a conversation between a Nerd and a Bum would ultimately turn out to be disastrous in most cases. The Bum boasting of his highly amazing social life and the Nerd boasting of his vast knowledge - leading to an eventual clash. This might result in an inferiority/superiority complex in either! An extreme category in here is that of Geeks. Ones who are into themselves and their own thing. They are least bothered about the world and personally, I think they do not suffer from any dilemma either. This is because they are singleminded and are accomplished in scientific or technical pursuits. However, they are felt to be socially inept. The fourth and the last category is that of the Jedi. According to the dictionary meaning, Jedi is the Good Guy who uses the Force. They are loosely based on Japanese Samurais, Catholic Jesuits, Templay and other characters from the ‘warrior monk’ tradition. They use the Force (a magical or mystical energy of the universe) and possess special combat training. Relating it to the Thale’s circles, this refers to students who manage themselves well-enough so as to study, sleep and socialize in the right proportions, despite facing the dilemmas of all sorts. They require mental strength and physical ability to be upbeat in this aspect. They aren’t spared of any dilemma but they are just able to use their time optimally. A student passing through the age of adolescence, teenage and then spending his time in college faces confusion all the time. Be it regarding subjects, choice of college, relationships, breakups, sexual orientation or peer pressure often leading them to bad habits. One of the best ways to get rid of such confusion and avoid unnecessary tension, is careful planning at all times. It is important to understand the need of the hour and act accordingly. Sometimes some students become disheartened and sad due to any of the above mentioned problems .One of the best solutions to such a problem would be to make a constant effort to keep ourselves happy and compete with ourselves rather than with others. Constant competition with others leads to a feeling of unwanted jealousy. It is always good to have a positive outlook before any start and sportsman’s spirit while on the field.
